Ongoing studies

Ongoing studies focus on:

1) Cross-talk between adipocytes and other adipose tissue resident cells such as different leukocytes in the context of adipose tissue expansion during weight gain as well as in immunoregulation. Are adipocytes “professional” immune-regulatory cells?

2) Role of mitochondria for adipocyte functionality and mechanisms underlying browning of white adipose tissue – Can we turn unhealthy adipose tissue into healthy adipose tissue?

3) Characterization of adipose tissue depot differences and their implication for adipocyte functionality.

4) Neuronal and adipose tissue-mediated regulation of pancreatic islets

5) Implications of obesity, adipocyte functionality and browning for tumor progression and cancer cachexia.
